Hi Kelly,
How are you? Hope the summer has treated you well.
I wanted to inquire about Senate bill 6 from last session and see if Senator Thrasher is going to make it a priority under the new Governor and if so if you have any information about possible changes that may occur in the language. We have our Junior League State Public Affairs Committee conference the first week in October and were considering making this bill a priority next session, contingent upon the approval of the board, so any information you can provide would be most appreciated. I realize that it is early and you probably have many other focuses, but I wanted to get an idea about the Senator’s mood in this regard.
Thanks for your help!
Mary
Hi Mary –
Quite frankly, based on discussions we’ve had, I don’t believe that Senator Thrasher will pursue the legislation again. Since Florida’s application for Race to the Top funding was approved, a lot of the education proposals for 2011 will hinge on the outcome and recommendations of Florida’s Task Force on Educational Excellence. Their report back to the new Governor will be due in December. If anything changes, or he expresses a different view, I’ll certainly get back to you.
